NCAA college football will start its new look of a playoff system in this upcoming 2014 football season. It is going to be something like March Madness for basketball meaning the best team may not win it all. I have a few teams that look to do great in this new playoff system.
1, Florida State University (Atlantic Coast Conference) -- FSU looks as if it is a favorable pick this year. Florida State is coming off a undefeated BCS championship season last year. FSU also has it's Heisman coming back in the form of Jamies Winston. Winston had over 4,000 all purpose yards and 90 touchdowns. The Seminoles only lost four players off of defense that was ranked first in the 2013 season. Pass rusher Mario Edwards will also be returning to the Seminole defensive line. Edwards stands 6-foot-3, 300 plus pounds, and can run the 40-yard-dash in 4.8 seconds. Coach Jimbo Fisher looks to finish where they left off last year in the new upcoming season.
2. Georgia (Southeastern Conference) -- UGA looks as if it can put together a title run this year. Georgia's tailback Todd Gurly is hopping to put together a great year. Gurly, who tore his ACL in the Tennessee game, is coming off a good year despite the injury. He rushed for more than a 1,000 yards with 10 touchdowns. Gurly looks to come off the injury to make a huge impact in the Bulldog offense. Even though Aaron Murry is gone, Georgia looks as if they have a great replacement in Huston Mason. Mason is a fifth year senior and has nothing more on his mind than a championship season. On the other side of the ball, linebacker Ramik Wilson looks to take down anybody coming his way. Wilson lead the SEC in tackles last and looks to keep doing that this year with the Bulldogs. UGA's defense looks to take control of the SEC East. Coach Richt and the Bulldogs look like a big contender this year to win the SEC and the title.
3. Oklahoma (Big 12 Conference) -- Sooner football has the potential to have a great season after a great Sugar Bowl win over Alabama. OU's own quarterback, Trevor Knight, found some new found motivation after the Sugar Bowl win and has carried on into spring and fall practices. Trevor had 348 passing yards against the Tide and was probably his breakout game. Knight shared the quarterback position last year with Blake Bell. Trevor had decent numbers last year 600 plus all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns. The Sooners have nine starters returning on defense and hope to get to the title game. Coach Stoops and the Sooners motivation look to be in great shape to be a contender of a championship.
4. Oregon -- The Ducks continue to have one of the most explosive offenses in both the Pacific 12 Conference and in college football. Oregon looks to continue that in this upcoming season. Oregon's quarterback, Marcus Mariota, looks to continue where he left off last year. Mariota had 3,665 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. Marcus is accompanied in the backfield by Byron Marshall and Thomas Tyner. Both players had good numbers for the Ducks last year and have more promise this season. Oregon looks to make less mistakes this year. The Ducks struggles last year was its downfall and cost them a championship. Oregon is hopeful to avoid those mistakes and become the dominate team that it can be.
There are many other hopefuls to make playoff bid in the forms of Alabama, Stanford, and Michigan State. Alabama looks as if it can take the Southeastern Conference (SEC) but the Tide have many obstacles to overcome. One obstacle is finding a replacement for A.J. McCarron. The other obstacles are the teams in the SEC West. Stanford has many obstacles mostly in the Pacific 12 Conference (PAC 12) as a whole. Stanford is one of six teams ranked in the PAC 12. Michigan State is the darkhorse in the chase of a championship. The Spartans can win the Big Ten Conference but that is not Michigan State's worry. Sparty's biggest obstacle comes week two of the season in the from of Oregon. If the Spartans win against Oregon then Michigan State has a great chance for a title.
